One of my family's favourite restaurants in New Orleans is the Acme Oyster Bar. When we saw a plane pulling a banner announcing that the same chain had opened a Acme Oyster House right here in Gulf Shores, we decided to give it a go. It didn't disappoint!
I hemmed and hummed over the menu for ages (everything looked good!) before settling on my usual at the Acme Oyster Bar - a shrimp po boy. It's good New Orleans style french bread overflowing with fresh fried shrimp, and "dressed" with lettuce, mayonnaise and tomato. Mom had the same, but only half-size with a side salad.
Bryn ordered the fried fish platter with a side of hush puppies. His plate probably could have fed all of us and he did a good job cleaning it!
Dad went the healthy route and ordered the daily special - grilled Wahoo with steamed veggies and rice.
After stuffing ourselves we managed to roll out and down the road to a little park under the bridge that runs over the Inter-coastal waterway. We could hear Jimmy Buffet songs blaring from his sister's restaurant, Lulu's which is just across the canal. Mom even found a little hermit crab on a rock along the water's edge!
We all really enjoyed the Acme Oyster House, and it's well worth a visit if you're in the area and are a fan of the New Orlean's branch!
