In January of 2004 I went to Ireland for a course on Irish history and culture through my college. We were based in Tralee in County Kerry. (Who knew that several years later I would meet someone from Tralee in Yosano, Japan!) To cover the history portion of the course we took trips all over the southwest of the Emerald Isle to visit ancient ruins and some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. As far as the culture part of the course went, we were encouraged to integrate with the local community - aka hang out with locals at the pub. We had a blast drinking pints of Guiness and singing traditional Irish songs practically every night. It was probably the most fun I've ever had "in class".
